Our current and futur project
The Nikmaq Foundation's projects bring together, for the purposes of the proper functioning of operations and facilities, diverse expertise including in administration, project management, agronomy, research into sustainable technological solutions, food processing and preservation, etc. all for the well-being of the women who will pass through the Foundation's farms.
Help for Native women and women survivors of challenging circumstances and human/sex trafficking
The Foundation, in its strategic plan, has defined as its first step the purchase of properties, lands, farms to shelter women in need of help and looking for a safe place. The Foundation has developed a range of services adapted to their needs which is in perpetual development.
First farm installed
In the summer of 2023, we opened our first farm in Canada, now a refuge for 22 women who have endured significant hardships and human/sex trafficking. This farm offers a secure and supportive environment where residents can connect with nature, develop practical skills, and work towards self-sufficiency, while also receiving essential rehabilitation and psychological support. Our mission is to cultivate a nurturing community that provides both stability and pathways to healing and growth.
We are $3,675,500.00 away from completing our raise for our next acquisition.
Future acquisition
Our upcoming acquisition in northern Sonoma County is inspired by a vision to establish a multi-generational destination dedicated to health, vitality, and sustainability. Perfectly situated with immense potential, the property already features a commercial kitchen, offering a versatile foundation to create a thriving community space. This location is set to become a cornerstone for wellness-focused experiences and sustainable living practices, aligning with our long-term goals of fostering growth, connection, and well-being for generations to come. This location can help up to 50 womens.
Agriculture
Our agricultural efforts are centered on sustaining our community with a zero-waste approach. We prioritize growing vegetables well-suited to the region, alongside cultivating grapes for local wineries. Any surplus produce is preserved through freeze-drying, ensuring nothing goes to waste. This initiative also provides meaningful opportunities for the women we shelter, enabling them to reconnect with the land and gain valuable skills through farming.
Freeze drying of food
This initiative will provides meaningful opportunities for the women we shelter, enabling them to gain valuable skills through the kitchen work and make them aware of the possibility to live with almost to no food waste. Project dedicated to the installation of freeze-drying equipment on farms administered by the Foundation as well as to the research and development of related processes and techniques, carried out in collaboration with Route des Gerbes d'Angelica and Lucilia Albernaz, expert advisor in this field.
