Who we are

The Nikmaq Foundation is devoted to uplifting Native American women AND any women, particularly survivors of challenging circumstances and human/sex trafficking. We strive to foster a brighter future, by providing sanctuary and support for mental healing. Nikmaq also collaborates with Native tribes to empower communities across the United States and to help preserve Native American heritage.

Alarming statistics
The numbers speak  for themselves

Since 2018, cases of violence against Native women in the United States have continued to be recorded.

A survey published the same year indicates that 84.3% of Native women surveyed have suffered physical violence and 56% have been sexually abused.

Native American women represent an average of 40% of the women involve in sex trafficking, when they represent 2 percent or less of the general population.

Often hidden, sexual crimes and physical assault are not punished and women pay the price. They do not know where to go, or who to turn to. The Foundation's mission is to help them escape their isolation, their unhealthy situation and their environment so that they can find peace in their hearts

The hard truth

68%

of sex trafficking survivors suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),

50%

of individuals who have been sexually exploited report experiencing a high incidence of physical health problems.

4%

of sex trafficking victims are successfully rescued or manage to escape their traffickers.

Make a Difference!

Nikmaq is dedicated to making a difference by creating a sanctuary for Native women AND any women in need of care and support after surviving human/sex trafficking. We envision a safe space that fosters moral support, mental healing, and a compassionate community ready to listen and help. Many Native people face critical challenges, including family violence, severe depression, and lack of essential resources, particularly in isolated reservations. Nikmaq is committed to aiding individuals through therapy and outdoor activities, with a mission to purchase land, farms and build a sustainable center to provide shelter and support for women in need. Additionally, Nikmaq actively engages with tribes by hosting gatherings and sponsoring festivals to ensure Native American culture is preserved and celebrated across generations.

Together, we can, for all these women, make all the difference in their lives and for their future and that of their next generation.

With your contributions, the Foundation will be able to carry out its human projects of shelter, aid and support more quickly than if it went it alone.
